ASA (acrylonitrile styrene acrylate), also called acrylic styrene acrylonitrile, is a thermoplastic developed as an alternative to ABS, but with improved weather resistance, and is widely used in the automotive industry. ASA has high outdoor weatherability, it retains gloss, color, and mechanical properties in outdoor exposure. It has good chemical and heat resistance, high gloss, good antistatic properties, and is tough and rigid.
Warping is still a consistent issue that you need to account for, as well as the potentially dangerous fumes that the plastic emits during printing, due to the presence of Styrene.
Thanks to mechanical properties is ASA filament a polymer which is ideal for the production of the first functional samples before serial production for functional prototyping, manufacturing tools, but also for the production of goods for everyday usage including outdoor applications.
